Only 20% of the world’s end of use clothing and textiles are currently collected for recycling and the vast majority of this is polyester, cotton and poly-cotton blends. The rest is going to landfill and Worn Again want to address this global problem. They have developed a chemical textile recycling technology which will be licensed globally to support the continual and circular flow of polyester and cotton resources.

Worn Again had support and financial backing from several major retailers to develop a commercial-scale plant to test their new recycling technology, but needed gap funding from a grant scheme before they could proceed.

Worn Again approached the Textile Growth Programme, run by Greater Manchester Business Solutions, and were referred to add specialists for support. We assisted Worn Again’s senior management team to develop a detailed Business Plan setting out a strong case including:

We also assisted Worn Again to complete a complex application form, and in February 2015 they were awarded funding of over £300,000 to fund the first stage in developing their commercial plant. Worn Again have since announced a partnership with H&M and Kering to make the continual recycling of textiles a sustainable reality.
